Barrister Babu is an Indian social drama television series that premiered on 11 February 2020 on Colors TV. The show is produced by Shashi Sumeet Productions and stars Pravisht Mishra, Aurra Bhatnagar Badoni and Anchal Sahu.

So what is all it about you say?

Barrister Babu revolves around a child bride. The child bride’s name is Bondita Das, she is the one who is married to Barrister Anirudh Roy Choudhary. The idea is that Anirudh fights against society for her education to become a barrister. Bondita’s age was originally set to be 8 years old. Due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic the production later had her age-adjusted to be 11 years old

The plot of the Barrister Babu

The show seems to be set in the pre-independence era in rural Bengal. The lead is Anirudh Roy Choudhary who is a 22-year-old barrister. He returns to Tulsipur to make people learn and to eradicate injustice customs and disbelieves from society. He does this as he sees injustice in society and which prevents the progress of women.

On the other hand, the other lead whose name is Bondita Das she is an 11-year-old Bengali Hindu girl, living with her widowed mother, Sumati and her maternal family. Bondita’s uncle and aunt decide to get Bondita to marry to an elderly man, while her cousin, Sampoorna is set to marry Saurabh, Anirudh’s best friend. However, the elderly man dies and Anirudh marries Bondita to save her being a part of sati.

Anirudh’s love interest, Saudamini, finds out about this and eventually plots to separate them. Anirudh refuses to recognize Bondita as his wife and rather sees her as his responsibility.

After marriage, Sampoorna turns negative to Bondita. Anirudh and Bondita nullified their marriage to support the Child Marriage Act. Bondita’s grandmother, Kalindi aka Thaku Maa enters who comes from Krishna Nagar. She takes up Bondita from Anirudh and tells her to learn to become a wife.

She plans Bondita’s marriage with Chandrachur, but disguised Anirudh rescues her on time and elopes. Bondita decides to become a Barrister and Anirudh sends her to London to complete her dream.
After eight years

Bondita is now grown up and returns to Tulsipur after becoming a barrister. She gets shocked seeing Krishna Nagar and Tulsipur have divided as Anirudh and Thaku Maa become enemies. Tupur tells her that Anirudh has cheated on them by setting bombs behind gifts which resulted from Tupur’s parent’s death and disfigured her face. Bondita refuses to believe this and decides to reunite the two villages.

She disguises herself as Vaijayanti and comes to Roy Choudhary. Bondita’s disguise comes into light and the Roy Choudhary’s hold her responsible for another attack on them which was actually planned by Chandrachur. Anirudh realizes his love for Bondita. Anirudh and Bondita finally confess their love for each other and escape from their family to get married to each other.
