Live-action ‘Moana’ Remake Starring Dwayne Johnson In Work

On April 3, 2023, Dwayne Johnson shocked Disney fans by revealing that a live-action adaptation of Moana is now in production. Auli’i Cravalho and Johnson will reprise their respective roles as Moana and Maui in the upcoming live-action adaptation. The original 2016 movie followed Moana, who embarks on a perilous journey across the ocean with Maui to save her island.

Dwayne Johnson recently released a video of himself and his two kids. Announcing the upcoming film, “Deeply humbled to announce we’re bringing the lovely story of Moana to the live-action big screen! This tale represents my culture and the grace, mana, and martial prowess of our people.”

Moreover, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson will produce the movie as well as return to the role of Maui. Johnson has a special connection to the project because of Peter Maivia- his late grandfather. His late grandfather was the model for the island of Maui.

Johnson said there is still “much more to come” in the live-action version, and hinted that it will convey a tale. Moana is the latest animated character to receive a live-action version. Joining Cruella from 101 Dalmatians, Lilo & Stitch, and The Little Mermaid, according to another statement Dwayne made on Instagram.
