It may now appear archaic to consider the possibility of stretching a display because, in this day and age, we can stretch mold and even fold a display. LG Display demonstrated a 12″ panel that can be stretched to 14″ and returned to 12″ without being damaged.

LG’s Stretchable Display Is More Concerned With Resolution

LG unveiled this stretchable display today via an official announcement on its website, where it also provided some details. While foldable displays have made inroads into the smartphone market, a related technology known as stretchable displays is also making inroads.

Because it can easily conform to complex shapes and stretch, this type of bendy, stretchy display can be used in clothing and furniture. It will also be more comfortable to wear. LG Display anticipates applications in a variety of industries, including “fashion, wearables, mobility, and gaming.” It may also find use in the automobile and aircraft industries. As far as prototype panels go, this one appears to be of high quality.

Features of LG Stretchable Display

This display is 12-inch in size and has a high resolution capability. Because it is the result of free-form technology, it can be folded and twisted without being damaged.

Its ideal counterpart will be a soft cloth that can be stretched while maintaining flexibility and durability. This display, on the other hand, is flexible like a rubber band. Allowing the display’s size to be expanded from 12-inch to 14-inch.

It has a pixel density of 100ppi, which is comparable to a 40″ 4K TV, and full-color RGB capabilities, according to GSM Arena. The display is built on a special silicon substrate that is also used for contact lenses.

The company has been working on this stretchable display since 2020, and we could see it on the market and in gadgets as early as 2024 or early 2025.
