Even when you’re not a hardcore fan of the original Karate Kid movies, Cobra Kai is still a solidly entertaining series to stream on Netflix.
Picking up where Robert Mark Kamen’s original films left off, the series throws us back to the lifestyles of karate prodigies Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) 34 years after both faced off in the All-Valley Karate Championship. After reigniting their age-old rivalry, both end up rediscovering their love of martial arts, which leads them both to open up competing dojos. This creates all kinds of play that transcends for their kids and has messier by the minute.
As audiences of the first three seasons, know the show’s got it all –’80s nostalgia, heart-stopping drama, light-hearted humor, and many epic karate battle scenes. Now that the series is three seasons in, fans are ready to find out what’s to come next in the upcoming season.
Here’s where things get a little tricky. There is no official release date for Season 4 however. Given the struggles of shooting through the ongoing pandemic, Season 4 may be postponed for a bit as everyone figures out how to keep production safely. Back in October 2020, co-creator Jon Hurwitz tweeted the writing of the fourth season has been wrapping up, and that they were planning on getting “everything composed and polished from the time we start filming.”
Given the normal clip that the show has been produced at, it would make sense for the new period to arrive annually after the most recent season in early 2022.
“COVID has thrown a wrench into everyone’s plans for exactly when production starts,” he said in the interview. “However, our expectation is in early 2021, we will be in production. We’re just keeping our heads down and making sure that the story is logical and also the scripts are solid and getting our ducks in a row so the moment that everything looks good, we can begin.”
No, and you won’t see one for a while. They have still got to shoot each the new season, so don’t expect to find a trailer until later this year at the earliest.
