Netflix has released a series of new promo pictures for Castlevania season 4, revealing Alucard, Sypha, Trevor, and many others preparing for the bloody struggles to come. The anime series has received widespread acclaim since its premiere on Netflix in 2017, and it has led the way for a number of other video game adaptations on the streamer. Castlevania season 4, that will also be the show’s last season, is set to premiere on May 13.
Depending on the classic video game series of the same title, Castlevania takes place in a fictionalized 15th century Wallachia where vampires, demons, and other creatures of the night roam free. The ancient seasons dealt especially with Dracula and his war of vengeance against humanity following the killing of his wife, but the series has since expanded to incorporate a large ensemble of characters and factions. The center characters of Trevor Belmont, Sypha Belnades, and Alucard are pulled from Castlevania 3, while the remainder of the cast is a mix of later game additions and characters that are fresh.

Though it began as a relatively easy short-form video game adaptation, Castlevania has developed its individuality within the course of its first few seasons. The show has received high praise for the loyalty to the source material and its original worldbuilding. From the hyperviolent activity to the leading work of this series’ voice cast, Castlevania has set a blueprint in several ways for the way to perform video game adaptations precisely the right way. Its success has undoubtedly played into Netflix’s more recent rights acquisitions for additional significant game possessions like Assassin’s Creed and Resident Evil.
