But National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) has dismissed this rumor by issuing a statement via its official Twitter handle. The statement clarifies that UPI transactions are still free for customers. The message further explained that the interchange charges apply only to transactions made through Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPIs). Examples of PPIs are wallets and credit cards. The interchange fee for such transactions is 1.1%.

No Charges for Normal UPI Payments

According to the NPCI’s statement, there are no charges for bank account to bank account Unified Payments Interface payments. This means that payments made through your bank account are free of cost.
