South Korean horror film Hellbound has topped the world’s popular TV show rankings a day after its release.

The Korean-language Netflix original has become the most-watched TV program on the streaming platform on Saturday (US time), according to data from streaming analytics firm FlixPatrol, Yonhap News Agency reports.

Hellbound ranks number 1 on the list of most-watched shows in 24 countries, including South Korea, Belgium and Mexico. While it ranks third among many countries including the United States and Canada.

This has propelled the global sensation Squid Game, also a Korean language native, to second place, which has long held the top spot.

Written and directed by Yeon Sang-ho, Hellbound depicts the social upheaval and unrest following a series of inexplicable supernatural events.

It is based on a webtoon titled Hell written and prepared by Yoon, which has received wide acclaim since its release in 2019.

However the next day (Sunday, US time), Hellbound dropped to second place, reaching the top.
