The most anticipated installment in Disney’s live-action remakes; The Little Mermaid 2023, has received a lot of attention for its box office performance. Plot
The Little Mermaid, Ariel is a young mermaid who lives underwater but is fascinated by the human world. The mermaids are allowed to visit the surface, and she was antsy waits for her turn. When she finally gets up, she observes a shipwreck during a storm. She saves a prince from drowning with whom she fell in love at first sight. He, on the other hand, does not notice her.
Ariel learns that humans have a shorter lifespan but an eternal soul, unlike mermaids who turn to seafoam upon death. Desiring an eternal soul and yearning to be with the prince, she visits the Sea Witch. She grants her legs in exchange for her ravishing voice for three days. The witch caveats her that she will experience hysterical pain and can only obtain a soul if she wins the love of the prince and marries him. Otherwise, she will perish by dissolving into sea foam.

The prince Erik finds Ariel and is captivated by her beauty. They spend time together, but he falls heads over heels with another woman, who he believes saved him. Heartbroken, Ariel is given a chance by her sisters to return to the sea if she assassins the prince, but she was reluctant towards it. Instead, she sacrifices herself by jumping into the water.
Ariel chooses to change into an ethereal spirit and becomes a daughter of the air. She is told that because she desired an everlasting soul and demonstrated selflessness, she can win her own soul by performing good things for humanity for the next 300 years.
Box office
So far, the worldwide box office revenues of The Little Mermaid remake have topped $209 million. The success of The Little Mermaid 2023 strengthens Disney’s resolve to pursue future live-action remakes of their classic animation masterpieces. This success shows that viewers continue to welcome and like these redesigned versions.
