After more than a year since the first season of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance released on Netflix, we have yet to find out if the show will officially return. With that said, there is some positive news for the series as it does win an Emmy and there have been some developments that could mean we will see season 2 eventually.
After 37 years since the release of Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal (which left Netflix on January 1, 2020 but then returned on September 5 in the US), the world of There has had a glorious return. Expanding on the beautiful world created by The Jim Henson Company, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is one of the most captivating originals to date.
With an all-star cast of voice actors and puppeteers to boot, Netflix really outdid itself with the series that launched on Netflix on August 30, 2019.
Along with the incredible puppeteers and actors, much of the credit for the series’ success can go to co-creators Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews. The writing team also did a phenomenal job weaving the narrative, piercing the hearts of many subscribers. Javier Grillo-Marxuach of Perdió y Encantado served as one of the main writers on the series, and his influence can certainly be felt.

The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance Netflix’s Renewal Status Of Season 2
It was a great surprise to us that The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance was not a limited series. But at the end of the first season, it is clear that there is enough story to cover a later season.
Despite the fact that with more than a year between the premiere and now, we are still confident that season 2 will continue at some point.

It looks delicate, it looks beautiful, but it is an incredibly big effort. You have no idea how great it was to see the finished show. And putting that back would be a huge thing. I mean, for a puppet to jump from the carriage to the carriage wheel, which is a kind of typical trick in the human world, that sequence is just amazing.
However, in the interview, Lisa Henson avoided answering if the series was returning categorically.
However, if the series is not renewed, one of the reasons would be because of how expensive the series is, since 2,500 have worked on the first and probably a similar number in any second season, although as many point out, most of the preliminary work for a second season has already been put.
What Can We Expect From Next Season?
It will be the beginning of the end for the Gelflings.
Despite winning the Battle of Stone in Wood, the Gelflings have not won the war against the Skesis.
At the end of the season, the scientist was able to create a weapon that would turn the tide of the war in Skesis’s favor. His monstrous creation were the Garthim, powered by the dark crystal, the Garthim are the result of the corpses of Arathim and the gathered Gruneks. The Garthim will be the tool the Skesis will use to win the war against the Gelflings and steal their essence.
What Will Happen To Deet?
Deet, one of Thra’s kindest and gentlest creatures, fell out of favor with Skesis’s influence on the world.
After receiving the power of the Sanctuary Tree, Deet received the power to transfer the Darkening infection to herself. The biggest risk of using this power was to herself, by absorbing too much Darkening she could corrupt her.
This finally happened when the Emporer attempted to use his Darkening power on the Gelflings. Deet stopped the Emporer by absorbing the Darkening, but in the end, this corrupts Deet and she is overcome by the contagion of the Darkening.
In Deet’s vision, she was sitting on a throne form. As the darkening continues to consume her, she can seek power for herself.
What About The Rest Of Deet’s Vision?
For those who have seen The Dark Crystal, Deet’s vision will not have spoiled them.
But what he saw was potentially beyond the events of the series.
The mother who runs away from Garthim with a baby in her arms is probably the mother of Kira, one of the protagonists of The Dark Crystal .
The male Gelfling placing a piece on the dark crystal will have been Jen and not Rian. Jen is the other protagonist of The Dark Crystal .
Deet’s vision, along with all the knowledge about Skesis and Mystics, may pave the way for the creation of the Wall of Destiny.
Rian Is Now The Leader Of The Gelflings?
No, and we don’t expect it to be.
Rian may be the one to unite the Gelflings, but the All-Maudra is the one who rules them. While the Gelflings are at war with the Skesis, Rian will likely be the “general” of the Gelfling army. You may have to take responsibility for leading the Stonewood clan until a Maudra is chosen.
Will Brea Become The All-Maudra?
As the daughter of the former All-Maudra, Brea is arguably the best candidate to lead the Gelflings. Despite this, Brea has shown no signs of wanting to become the next All-Maudra.
Instead, there is a chance that Seladon could be cast as All-Maudra. Even though he sided with the Skesis, Seladon has now seen the truth and error of their ways. Proven to be a capable leader who has an air of authority around her, Seladon could become a great All-Maudra.
Will The Skesis Win The War?
Ultimately, for the events of The Dark Crystal to pass the Skesis have to win.
As sad as this is, our protagonists will be the pioneers of the fall of Skesis.
What has yet to be mentioned in the series is the Wall of Destiny. The wall displays an ancient Gelfling prophecy, detailing the Great Divide of the Skesis and Mystics and that in order to restore balance and save the world from Thra, a Gelfling must be the one to heal the Crystal.
To create the wall, it took the power of seven members of each of the seven clans, 49 Gelflings in all. By lighting the fires of prophecy and consulting with the flames, they were able to wield magic thus creating the Wall of Destiny.
