Spider-Man 3, the third installment about Spider-Man starring Tom Holland, has added an interesting new face to its cast. Alfred Molina, who played Otto Octavius / Doctor Octopus in Spider-Man 2, the sequel to the Wall-Crawler played by Tobey Maguire; He will once again play the villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film directed by Jon Watts. As THR recalls, Molina’s involvement in the sequel to Spider-Man: Far From Home was rumored in late November when GWW claimed the actor had been seen on the set of the film.

Molina’s signing is not the only one that has made Spider-Man fans think that the multiverse will be a key element in Spider-Man 3. In October it was announced that Jamie Foxx will return as Electro in the film. The interpreter already gave life to this villain in The Amazing Spider-Man 2: The Power of Electro, the sequel to the saga about the superhero starring Andrew Garfield.

Molina’s return as Doctor Octopus seems to make more sense of the theories about the multiverse in Spider-Man 3. Besides, things could get even more interesting. According to Collider, Garfield will also return as Peter Parker in the film. The aforementioned outlet notes that Emma Stone is expected to return as Gwen Stacy. Even that Maguire is in talks to get into Peter Parker’s shoes once again. Lastly, Kirsten Dunst will also be back as MJ.

Marvel Studios has not yet officially confirmed that we will see these four actors in Spider-Man 3. However, the signings of Molina and Foxx seem to hint that it will. Add to that the fact that the multiverse is an element of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. First of all, because the Scarlet Witch and Vision series, in charge of inaugurating this new stage of the franchise, could show how Wanda Maximoff ( Elizabeth Olsen ) opens the door to other realities. Second, because Stephen Strange / Doctor Strange ( Benedict Cumberbatch) will be the new mentor to Holland’s Peter Parker in Spider-Man 3. And, thirdly, because the sequel to Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme carries the word multiverse in the title: Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness.

Either way, we will have to wait to find out if the third installment about Spider-Man, also with Zendaya in its cast, does something similar to what we already saw in Spider-Man: A New Universe. The animated film showed how Miles Molares and other Wall Crawlers from different realities joined forces to defeat the Kingpin.

Spider-Man 3 plans to hit theaters on July 16, 2021. While you’re waiting for updates, check out the trailer for Scarlet Witch and Vision. The series, starring Olsen and Paul Bettany, premieres on Disney + on January 15.
