Barbie’s latest Role Model doll honors Dr. Maggie Aderin-Pocock, a British space scientist and educator. Dr. Maggie Aderin-Pocock is a space scientist and the BBC’s The Sky at Night presenter. It was given to her in celebration of International Women’s Day and British Science Week. Best known for hosting BBC One’s The Sky at Night and for her work with the James Webb Space Telescope.
Maggie is also a former President of the British Science Association. Mattel, the toy business, created her doll. They designed a doll that looks exactly like her, complete with starry clothing and a telescope accessory. In appreciation of her contributions to making space and science more accessible to girls.

Barbie is also contributing to Dr. Aderin-book Pocock’s Am I Made Of Stardust?. To schools across the United Kingdom through her partner charity, Encouraging Girls. Mattel will add a marine biologist doll to its Barbie Profession line this spring, joining other Stem figures such as a doctor, veterinarian, scientist, and astronaut.
Barbie has also recognized seven other women who are “trailblazers” in their fields, including Susan Wojcicki, the long-time CEO of YouTube, and Professor Dr. Antje Boetius, a German marine-researcher and micro-biologist. Dr. Aderin-doll Pocock’s will not be available for purchase by the general public but is a one-of-a-kind gift from Mattel.
