Netflix is formally launching viewers back into the orbit of its funny original show Space Force. On Monday, months following rumors of renewal had surfaced, the streaming giant confirmed that it would be bringing back the Steve Carell-starring series for Season 2, but what would we know about the upcoming season?
Even though a premiere date for Season 2 hasn’t yet been declared, production on the sophomore run will officially kick off sometime in 2021. For Season two, production will move from Los Angeles to Vancouver, British Columbia, to decrease the show’s budget. Talking to The Hollywood Reporter in May, showrunner Greg Daniels triumphed in the hefty production price, saying, “imagine when this is The Office that’s shot like a $100 million Marvel [film ].” It’s often been difficult for such productions to get renewals in the streamer, which generally makes renewal decisions on a viewership versus cost analysis. Fellow space-themed Netflix drama Off, which also boasted a high production cost, was canceled following Season 1 despite having debuted to much success.
Together with a change in production place, Season 2 will also see a few changes behind the camera, together with the show undergoing a new revamp. While Daniels will reunite as showrunner, he will be connected by Norm Hiscock, who’ll function as co-showrunner. Jimmy O. Yang has also joined the Space Force composing team. Sources allege this inventive revamp is in the hopes that “another season will allow Space Force the runway to grow creatively and better connect with critics and viewers alike.” Even though the series had obtained a mostly positive response from audiences, it hadn’t been fulfilled with the same fanfare from critics, that gave Space Force that a 38 percent Tomatometer evaluation on Rotten Tomatoes. What’s On Netflix reports these inventive modifications could potentially suggest that Season 2 is the final opportunity for the string” to get it right.”
In front of the camera, it’s thought that a lot of this Season 1 cast will return, such as Carell, John Malkovich, Ben Schwartz, Tawny Newsome, Diana Silvers, and Yang. At this moment, it’s uncertain what the storyline of a second season will be, even though it will probably deal greatly with the United States rendering the Chinese moon foundation inoperable and vice versa, leaving both teams stranded in space.
Space Force Season 1 is available for streaming on Netflix. While Season 2 does not yet have a premiere date, it is possible that it might premiere in late 2021 or early 2022 depending on the series’ production schedule and potential impacts of the pandemic.
