Simon Cowell attended Radlett Preparatory School and the independent Dover College. But, he left that college after taking GCE O levels. After passing in English Language and Literature, he then attended Windsor Technical College. At this college, he gained another GCE in Sociology. Initially, Cowell took a few menial jobs like working as a runner. However, soon after his father got him a job in the mailroom at EMI Music Publishing.
A few years later, in 1985 he along with a partner formed Fanfare Records. Their venture enjoyed some success before finally wrapping up four years later in 1989. In the same year, BMG Records hired Cowell as an artist and repertoire consultant. Cowell’s acts that he signed for BMG were a huge success. As a result, it established him as an increasingly powerful influence in popular music.

Simon Phillip Cowell along with British music and television producer Simon Fuller developed Pop Idol. They changed the show’s format by allowing viewers to choose the winners in the final rounds. From 2001-2003, the show flourished. Later, the Fox Broadcasting Company imported the show, along with Cowell as judge, to the United States. The show premiered in 2002 as American Idol and became an immediate hit.
