Sourav Ganguly is a former national cricket team captain ,Indian cricket administrator and commentator .He is known for winning many trophies for India. Saurav Ganguly’s Biography
Ganguly was born on 8 July 1972 , in Calcutta. His father was among the richest man the city and run a flourishing print business. After being sick for long his father died on 21 February 2013 at the age of 73. He did not initially played cricket but played football. One of the favorite sports of people in Kolkata. Later he was attracted to cricket. His mother was not supportive to take up sports as a career. But Sourav Ganguly’s elder brother Snehasish Ganguly, who was already an established Cricketer, Supported Ganguly’s dream to be a cricketer and convinced their father. To get him enrolled in a cricket coaching camp during his summer holidays.His batting talent was identified ,in a cricket academy where he got himself admitted .
He learned batting with his elder brother. Despite being a right handed person he learned to play from left hand so that he could his brother’s sporting capability. Saurabh Ganguly scored a century against Orissa in under- 15. And later became the captain of St. Xavier’s School’s cricket team.

Some of the awards are Sports Star Person of the Year, Arjuna Award, CEAT Indian Captain of the Year, Padma Shri 2004, Rammohan Roy Award. Ganguly also earned 31 ODI Man of the Match awards. He was awarded with 6 Man of the Match awards in Test cricket.

Saurav Ganguly’s Career
Saurav made his international debut in 1992 against West Indies. But his debut was not that good as he could only scored 3 runs. He was dropped immediately as he was perceived to have arrogant behavior and his attitude towards the game was also openly questioned. It was also rumoured that Sourav Ganguly refused to carry drinks for his teammates, commenting that it was not his job to do so and later denied by him. As a result, he was removed from the team. But he took team to World Cup it happened after so many years. That was his successful tournament as he scored 465 runs at an average of 58.12, including three centuries.
