Roger Federer posted on social media that we won’t be able to participate in the 2020 Olympics. The reason being he has picked up another knee injury and is under rehabilitation at the moment. This could have potentially his last Olympic participation. He was looking forward to it as he missed out in the 2016 Olympics due to injury. As fate would have wanted, Roger has a lot of trophies but Olympic Men singles gold.
He did win Olympic gold in Men’s doubles during the 2008 Beijing Olympics but winning Olympic gold in singles was his dream. Roger Federer will be 40 in 3 weeks and already had two knee surgeries. With another knee injury, this may be his final nail in the coffin. He came back strong after the Halle Open loss as he reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon. In doing so, he became the oldest man to do so. He looked a little low that day and maybe was hiding his injury. He has said that he is working hard on his fitness and will do his best to return on tours for Roger fans. US Open, the last slam of the year, is due in 2 months, and hopefully, his fans may see him there. Many considered his last Wimbledon appearance as he doesn’t have enough legs left to win a grand slam.
Roger Federer, though, has always said that he will hang up his boots once he knew his time is up. It’s great to see his hunger that even though he is approaching his 40s, he still wants to continue doing his things to be fit again and ready for the summer. Recently, Novak Djokovic equaled his grand slam tally with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Novak has already confirmed that he will participate at the Tokyo Olympics and will be eyeing a Gold as he has just won a Bronze at the Olympics. I hope to see Roger back on the court during this summer, as the extent of his injury is still unknown.
