Picturesque Locations

Although Ranbir Kapoor is a valid enough reason for you to watch this movie, it has locations that are mesmerizing (to say the least).  Kashmir is visible in many movies before but the feel of Kashmir’s beauty appear to be phenomenal in the film Rockstar. Due to this Imtiaz Ali film, all the Indian fans to noticed the European land called Prague. One of the best parts about the film is Jordan (Ranbir’s character) and Heer’s (Nargis’s character) romance in the beautiful locations of Prague.

Rumi’s Soulful Words

The film ends with a famous Sufi quote by famous poet Rumi. It goes like, “Away beyond all concepts of wrong-doing and right-doing, there is a world and I will meet you there.” However, in the entire film there are many references from Rumi’s work.  It is sure a treat to all those who are fans of Rumi.

Sufi Touch from the Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya

Jordan finds and explores himself through the Sufi dargah of Hazrat Nizammudin. The best thing about Rockstar is that it pushes the character to experience his ‘own’ journey.  As a result, the experience helps him in detaching from the idea of fame. In the film, a Qawwali Kun Faya Kun was performed at the dargah itself. It also features the Nizami brothers. The sufi song was a popular hit and still hasn’t lost its charm. A timeless classic!

Without a doubt, AR Rahman gave one of the best Hindi film music albums with Rockstar.

Ustad Jameel Khan’s Magical Shehnai

Bollywood legend Shammi Kapoor was last seen in the film Rockstar. He played the role of Jordan’s mentor Ustaad Jameel Khan. He was the one who introduced him to the other side of fame. Although, the first meeting between Ustaad Jameel Khan and Jordan is very casual, Jordan takes the music of his shehnai very lightly.

However, Ranbir’s character starts to feel differently when he gets lost while playing along with the classical music by Shaami Kapoor.  In the scene, Dichotomy of fame was being played. Watch the Dichotomy of fame here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwRj-bOUQUE

Not a glorified ‘Happy-Ending’

Why Rockstar is iconic is because it not a glorified love story. Rater, it is a tragedy.  Rockstar does not have a happy ending at all. Jordan remains an unhappy, self-destructive rebel without a cause. The theme of longing and separation is common in almost all Imtiaz Ali films.
