We are looking down the barrel of the longest Droughtlander yet, but the beloved cast and crew of Outlander are intent on keeping us apprised of the latest out of the collection (and, er, Zoom) in the meantime.
Below, what we know about season 6 of those hit Starz series–from the latest from place to what to anticipate for Claire (Caitriona Balfe), Jamie (Sam Heughan), Brianna (Sophie Skelton), and Roger (Richard Rankin) as soon as the series returns.
While Starz has not announced a formal release date to the next season of Outlander, we could make a guess based on previous seasons. The latest season, Season 5, started filming in April 2019 and released on Starz in February 2020. Due to production delays caused by the coronavirus, Season 6 will release later than planned, but we will likely see it sometime later this year or in early 2022.
The show typically covers one novel at a time, with season five covering events in the sixth and fifth novels, The Fiery Cross and A Breath of Snow and Ashes. As such, it is expected that season six could delve deeper into the events of book seven, An Echo in the Bone – but don’t worry! There will be nine books in the series so we’re not running out of material any time soon.
Season six will likely examine the wake from the dramatic season five finale, which saw Claire rescued by Jamie and her family after being kidnapped and attacked. Meanwhile, Roger and Brianna find themselves still stuck in the past with their son Jemmy, despite trying to go back to the present day.
