Numerous city accounts, including the one of Eric Adams, the mayor of New York City, have been impacted by the decision to prohibit the app from official devices. The TikTok app has recently been outlawed on devices used by the government in New York City.
The city’s mayoral office stated that the app poses a “security threat to the city’s technical networks.” And that departments of the New York City government must delete the app within 30 days in a statement released yesterday (16 August). Employees of the local government will no longer have access to the app. No access to corporate networks and devices as a result of the restriction.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ TikTok bio has been modified to read: “This account was managed by NYC until August 2023.” Eric Adams has over 11,600 followers on the app. It is no longer being watched.
TikTok is now prohibited for official devices in an increasing number of US locations. Due to security worries over the Chinese owner of the app, ByteDance. Which has its headquarters in Beijing, several federal agencies and more than two dozen US states have prohibited access to TikTok from government devices.
