Messi’s Burofax to Ex-Barcelona President Bartomeu Revealed

FC Barcelona icon Lionel Messi sent a burofax to Josep Maria Bartomeu, Ex- Presiden of Barcelona. He stated that he wants to leave the club. On 24th August 2020, Messi had sent this burofax mentioning that he was planning to leave the club by the 30th of the month. However, it took almost a year before the Argentine departed the Camp Nou. The fax that Messi sent had a clause ‘force Majeure‘ which permitted him to leave La Liga.

Leaked Burofax Details

Mundo Deportive, a Spanish publication has leaked the Burofax Lionel Messi has sent to the Ex-President requesting his termination from the club.

Messi wrote “Hereby, and in accordance with the provisions of clause 3.1 of the contract dated November 25, 2017, I hereby express my wish to terminate my employment contract as a professional footballer with effect from August 30, 2020″

He exercised his right and therefore penned down, “In any case, within 10 days following the end of the season of competition, and thus meeting the agreed deadline for exercising the aforementioned clause 3.1., in accordance with the material contract of our agreement, which must be interpreted in accordance with the exceptional circumstances of the 2019/20 season, I exercise my right to terminate the contract with effect from August 30, 2020, with the consequences provided for in the aforementioned stipulation 3.1″

The above statement is the final statement of the burofax.

In Conclusion

According to the leaked burofax, Messi has himself signed the contract and also specified the terms which allowed him to be released from the contract.

Whereas the news surfaced in the media that the Barcelona club’s management flatly disagreed to Messi’s request.

Leaving his boyhood club behind, Lionel Messi, moved to Paris Saint- Germain (PSG). However, it is remarkable that Messi spent 21 years of his career on the Catalan side. Messi decided to leave the Barcelona club after facing a humiliating defeat of  8-2 by Bayern Munich in UEFA Champions League in 2020.

However, Lionel Messi bid the final adieu to FC Barcelona in 2021.
