The Karnataka government placed the job reservation bill on hold after a huge outcry. Karnataka’s Government has chosen to postpone the contentious job reservation bill in the face of widespread industry opposition. The Karnataka State Employment of Native Candidates in Industries, Factories, and Other Establishments Bill, 2024, was approved by the Cabinet on Monday.
It said that any industry, factory, or other enterprise must appoint 50% of local applicants in management categories and 70% in non-management categories. If the candidates do not have secondary school certificates with Kannada as a language, they must take a Kannada proficiency test, the bill states. “Mandate local reservations and appoint a government officer in each company to monitor. This will terrify Indian IT and GCCs. “Shortsighted,” Assocham co-chairman RK Mishra stated.
Karnataka’s plan is similar to a bill submitted by the Haryana government. It mandates a 75% quota of private sector jobs for state citizens. It was, however, overturned by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The source of dispute is a measure that requires Kannadigas to be given 50% reservations for administrative positions. 75% for non-administrative positions in private enterprises.
Initially, the government was defensive about the effort to prioritize Kannadigas. Siddaramaiah stated that the government did not want Kannadigas to be denied job chances in the state. “We are pro-Kannada government.” Siddaramaiah stated that the welfare of Kannadigas is his top focus.
With firms expressing concerns that they may have to close shops in Karnataka if Kannada becomes a qualifying language for jobs, Andhra Pradesh minister Nara Lokesh used the opportunity to try to entice the industry leaders. ” We invite you to expand or relocate your business to our IT, IT services, AI, and data center cluster in Vizag. We will provide you with best-in-class facilities, uninterrupted electricity, infrastructure, and the most qualified professional staff for your IT firm, with no constraints from the government. Andhra Pradesh is eager to receive you. Please get in touch.” Nara Lokesh posted.
