Kangana Ranaut gave ‘last chance to appear before the court for a hearing in the defamation case filed by Javed Akhtar

A defamation case was filed by known lyricist Javed Akhtar against Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, in which Mumbai Court said, “Exemption application filed by the advocate for accused is granted for today as the last chance and the advocate for accused is directed to keep the accused present on next date without fail”.

Court also refused the plea made by Akhtar’s lawyer which said a non-bailable warrant must be issued against Kangana Ranaut, denying which court said, “On failure of accused to remain present before the court on next date, they (complainant) may apply for a warrant against her.”, “The exemption application filed by the advocate for accused (Ranaut) is granted for today as the last chance and the advocate for accused is directed to keep the accused present on next date without fail and the application filed by the advocate for the complainant (Akhtar) is rejected”.

Javed Akhtar filed the case against Kangana for the offense of defamation under sections 399 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code. When she interviewed on Republic TV and Republic Bharat, he learned that Kangana is damaging his “immaculate reputation by falsely attributing statements to him.” This event occurred in July 2020 when Kangana was giving her statements in an interview to the news channels after the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, which went around 57 minutes to be precise. She alleged that Javed Akhtar could “get away with anything” and that he is also involved in the “BollywoodSuicideGang“.

After Kangana disclosed that no criminal cases are pending against her and that her passport can be renewed, Javed Akhtar filed an intervention plea before the court, refusing which court further said, “If we allow your intervention then why not 100 others or 1000 others. Who is the informant? You are not the informant. The state is there. You have no right to intervene,”. Kangana shared her gratitude by tweeting on Twitter, saying, “Movie mafia trying to prove there is no harassment of any outsider at all by openly and shamelessly harassing an outside ….. Thank you Bombay HC.”

Kangana Ranaut was asked by the court to appear for a hearing in the defamation case but she couldn’t, on which her lawyer told that she was not in the country and that she went for the shoot of her film to another country, on which Javed Akhtar filed a plea for issuance of non-bailable warrant against her but the plea was rejected by the court. Kangana also filed another plea for permanent exemption from all the hearings as it would not be possible to appear every time because of her regular travels regarding work. However, the plea is still pending in court. The next hearing is scheduled to be on September 1st, and the court has allowed Akhtar to move further with his plea of issuing an arrest warrant against her only if she fails to appear before the court in the next hearing.
