Streaming platforms have become the queens of the 2021 Golden Globes nominations. This scenario should not catch anyone by surprise, as the coronavirus crisis has prevented many titles from being released in theaters. The solution for distributors and studios has been to use Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney + so that their most anticipated titles reached the public. On the other hand, many films and series that can be made with a statuette in the 78th edition of the Foreign Press Association awards are original productions of the platforms.
Netflix has become the leader of the 2021 Golden Globes nominations with titles like Mank and The Crown. The film of David Fincher adds six nominations including for Best Picture Drama, Best Director, and Best drama actor for Gary Oldman. Fiction about the British royal family ties Mank in number. The Crown has earned a place in categories such as Best Drama Series, Best Actress for Olivia Colman, and Best Supporting Actress for Gillian Anderson and Helena Bonham Carter.
Other Netflix nominees include The Chicago 7 Trial, Lady’s Gambit, The Prom, Ozark, Ratched, Unorthodox, Beyond the Moon, and Emily in Paris.
Amazon Prime Video has also made its way into some categories with Borat, a sequel film movie, and Sound of Metal. The same has happened with HBO with the fictions Territorio Lovecraft and The Flight Attendant. Finally, Disney + has titles in different categories such as The Mandalorian and Soul.

Taking into account that the Golden Globes are usually the prelude to the Oscars and that 2020 has been strongly marked by the coronavirus crisis, we could once again see Netflix rising as the leader of the nominations at the Film Academy Awards of Hollywood.
The winners of the 78th Golden Globes will be announced on February 28 at a ceremony presented by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
