Westeros could expand … Once again. As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter , HBO would be working on a Game of Thrones animation . The project would be in its early stages, but the idea is to develop an animated drama aimed at an adult audience , that is, one that has the same essence and style as the original series.

At the moment, there is no official confirmation on this, so we must treat this information as rumors. No other details are yet known about it, such as the release date, the actors involved or the time in which it is going to be set. We will have to wait for new news, but it would not be bad for Kit Harington , Sophie Hunter or Maisie Williams to lend their voices to the characters.

If the animation goes ahead, it will join a long list of projects around the work of George RR Martin . The writer’s novels have spawned one of the greatest series in television history and HBO is unwilling to let go of its goose that lays the golden eggs. For this reason, shortly after the end of Game of Thrones announced the realization of 5 more ‘spin-offs’ . In these years the idea of the studio has changed a bit and, currently, they only work on two series – plus animation.

The one that is more advanced is House of the Dragon . It is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones and tells the story of House Targaryen, the family that had conquered and ruled Westeros for centuries until the arrival of Robert Baratheon and his rebellion. So far, the confirmed cast consists of Paddy Considine , Matt Smith , Emma D’Arcy, and Olivia Cooke . If the coronavirus allows it, it will be released in 2022.

Another fiction in development is the recently announced adaptation of Tales of Dunk and Egg . They are a series of three books -for the moment- that follow the adventures of Sir Duncan the Tall and a young Aegon V Targaryen and that are set 90 years before Game of Thrones .
