At the same time, Roger Federer, as of late, said he ‘feels two different ways’ with taking part as he keeps on indicating he may skip the Olympics. Djokovic won the French Open and Australian Open, and there were concerns the Serbian may be experiencing burn-out like large numbers of his opponents.

Yet, the Tennis Association of Serbia has confirmed that the 34-year-old was necessary for their Olympic group. Reports from sources said, “Novak wants to take an interest in the Olympic Games, and we have effectively sent a rundown with his name on it to the Olympic Committee of Serbia. It will be sent from that point.”

Djokovic said recently he should seriously think about pulling out of the Olympics if fans were banished from joining in. But now World’s No 1 Novak Djokovic took to social media and confirmed that he is all set to participate in the Tokyo Olympics as a crucial part of the Serbia squad. Novak Djokovic will play for Serbia at the Tokyo Olympics this mid-year; the world No 1 tennis player has affirmed. The 34-year-old, who won his 6th Wimbledon men’s singles title on Sunday, uncovered the news in a post on his Twitter handle on Thursday.

He shared a video to his fans and media and said, “Can’t dishonor my little companion Koujirou.” He had booked his flight to Tokyo and will gladly be joining #TeamSerbia for the Olympics.” It will be Serb’s third Olympics after a fourth-place finish at London 2012, where he was Serbia’s flag bearer, and Rio 2016, where he was taken out in the first round by Juan Martin del Potro.

The information of his participation comes after various high-profile tennis stars, including Roger Federer and Serena Williams, saying they would not participate in the Games, which begin on July 23. British No 1 player Johanna Konta, who missed Wimbledon, recently pulled out of Tokyo after testing positive for Covid-19.

Great Britain’s Dan Evans was likewise compelled to pull out after he was tested positive for Covid-19, with Jamie Murray replacing him in the game. Neal Skupski will play with Murray, and a seven-time Grand Slam doubles champion after the pair highlighted during last season’s ATP Tour and the 2019 Davis Cup Finals.

GB tennis team leader Iain Bates told the media that he is pleased that Jamie will join them in Tokyo. It is incredible to have a competitor of Jamie’s experience and type as a group component. He is looking forward to the Games beginning in once again seven days.
