Cristiano Ronaldo amazingly set the world record for the most international goalscorer, surpassing Iran’s player Ali Daei’s benchmark of 109 goals in international football. The Portugal captain finally reached this mark during his side’s World Cup Group A qualifying match against Ireland.

It was such a historic moment. This miracle which people have been eagerly but patiently waited and looked forward to since the commencement of the tournament itself. But this remarkable achievement also arrived at the exact 89th minute, just when the Portuguese started striking a goal to level up the score 1-1 radio in the match. Just six minutes into the incredible stoppage time, and there it’s was Ronaldo added another goal and that took up his tally to 111 goals in 180 games. This 36-year-old has taken exact 180 matches to get to the tally of 110 goals. Whereas Ali Daei has scored 109 goals in 149 appearances playing for the national side.

“I’m very happy, not only because I beat the record but for the special moments that we had,” Ronaldo said. “Two goals at the end of the game is so tough, but I have to appreciate what the team did. We believed until the end.”
The Portuguese forward had recently signed with Manchester United, they had a frustrating start to the match. Because of the reason he missed converting a penalty in the 15th minute. At that time Ireland took the lead in the 45th minute with their defender John Egan who put the ball behind the back of the nets. But Irish fans definitely suffered heartbreak as Ronaldo’s be it late but his amazing heroics saved the match for his team.

Lastly, Hungary’s Ferenc Puskar and Zambian Godfrey Chitalu round off the top five together with 84 and 79 goals respectively.
