Smriti’s Early Life, Family, and Career

Smriti Shriniwas Mandhana is an Indian Left-hand batsman who plays for the Indian women’s national team. Born 18 July 1996 in Mumbai, Maharashtra (Present Age: 25 years old), Smriti belongs to a family of cricketers. Her parents are Smita and Shrinivas Mandhana.

She was only two years old when her family moved to Madhavnagar, Sangli in Maharashtra. Therefore, she completed her schooling in Madhavnagar.  Her father and brother, Shravan, played cricket. They even played at the district-level, for Sangli. She was deeply inspired by her brother. Therefore, she decided to take up cricket when she watched her brother play at the Maharashtra state Under-16s tournaments. At the tender age of nine, Smriti got selected in the Maharashtra’s Under-15 team.

When she was eleven, she got selected for the Maharashtra Under-19s team. Mandhana’s whole family is closely involved in her cricketing activities. They have supported her throughout her journey. By profession, her father Shrinivas is a chemical distributor. But, he still takes care of his daughter’s cricket program. Her mother Smita is responsible for her strict and healthy diet, clothing, and other organizational aspects. And her brother Shravan bowls to her in the nets to help her practice.

Awards and Recognition

Without a doubt, Smriti’s talent is appreciable and commendable. She has taken Indian’s women cricket to greater heights. Therefore, she has a number of awards by her side. In her Test debut, she scored a half-century.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) conferred her as the Best Women’s International Cricketer in June 2018. In December of the same year,  the International Cricket Council (ICC) awarded her with the Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Award. The award was for the best female cricketer of the year. At the same time, Smriti was also named the ODI Player of the Year by the ICC. In October 2021.  Smriti Mandhana became the first Indian woman to score a century in a pink-ball Test in Australia.

Due to her incredible skills and batting, Mandhana is currently serving as the captain of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team.
