Controversy: Kangana had demanded transfer of Javed Akhtar’s defamation case

Kangana Ranaut had approached the Dindoshi Sessions Court under Section 408 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) to transfer the defamation case filed through lyricist Javed Akhtar. According to reports, Additional Sessions Judge Shridhar Bhosle heard the petition on February 25 and the court reserved its order on his application. According to the India Today report, the court will give the order on March 9.

In January, Kangana had filed a fresh petition challenging the sessions court’s order, seeking transfer of all her legal proceedings, saying the Andheri court had tarnished her image. The actress had approached the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate stating that the charges against her were “bailable, non-cognizable and compoundable”. He alleged that the Andheri court had “abused power” to hurt his reputation even before his trial.

In response, Javed Akhtar’s lawyer Jay K Bhardwaj had said that Kangana’s motive was to delay the proceedings by filing several petitions and harass her client, who is appearing in the Andheri magistrate court despite being a senior citizen.
