Cannabis Cultivation is soon to be legalized in the Hills of  Himachal. The Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, stated on Friday that the state government is considering making marijuana growing legal. According to that, he indicated, the state has already begun developing regulations for this purpose.

“It (cannabis cultivation) would play a significant role in generating revenue for the State. Besides, the medical properties make it a valuable treatment option for patients. They can benefit from its utilization for industrial purposes as well.” Mr. Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, said this in Shimla.

According to the CM of Himachal Pradesh, the state government was taking special care about the growing use of marijuana. So the State Government has set up a five-member committee of MLAs to go into the depths of the matter.

“The committee will undertake an exhaustive investigation into each and every issue. Which is related in pertaining to cannabis growing in the state. Within a month, the committee will tour locations where cannabis is illegally grown and report its findings. The government would only decide on the basis of the report,” he added.

According to Mr. Sukhu, numerous governments have maintained the legality of cannabis growing. Perhaps due to the drug’s possible therapeutic advantages.

“In 2017, neighboring state Uttarakhand became the country’s one of the first states to legalize cannabis cultivation.” There are some districts in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh that use controlled farming. Similar to that, restricted cannabis growing is now legal in a number of nations, including Uruguay, Canada, the United States, Austria, and Belgium,” he stated.

The Chief Minister stated the government will be considering all aspects. Including regulatory measures, before deciding whether or not to legalize cannabis cultivation. The government will study the models followed by other States that have already legalized cannabis cultivation before making the final call.
