Marvel surely knows how to maintain a confusing yet steady timeline for their movies. With the biggest Avengers showdown, the Avengers Endgame culmination and many superheroes bidding adieu to the film franchise, the phase four releases have been pretty interesting to watch. Black Widow is the latest movie in the Marvel cinematic universe that deeply explores the backstory of Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow, portrayed by Scarlett Johansson for over a decade. Scarlett Johansson’s character is among the few mere mortals who have battled them all, be it space conqueror, hydra organization, and even against the team. Let’s understand how the Black Widow fits in the ever-expanding timeline of MCU.
Black Widow Timeline
You see Natasha Romanoff running because she didn’t comply with the Sokovia Accords, an organization that would pin the Avengers under government rule. Half the team has already joined and the other half is against the idea of subjugation of their heroic powers to act as pawns of the government. Natasha Romanoff hides from the government in the midst of which she faces a formidable foe that is hell-bent on killing her during a fuel run. There she discovers a bag full of mysterious red gaseous vials that alter the sense of captivity embedded deep into the mind of the Widows, an organization that Natasha was previously a part of.
Black Widow Ending
In the ending, we see Florence Pugh paying respects to the tombstone of Natasha Romanoff. That imagery confirms the fact that it is after the Avengers Endgame which consumes many first phases of Marvel superheroes including Iron Man, Captain America, and Natasha Romanoff who willingly jumps into the soul pit to save Barton from making the sacrifice.
Julia Louis Dreyfus has made a few exciting appearances in the MCU phase four and she perfectly dons the role of Valentina who is amassing able-bodied fighters to do the deed for her. At the end of the Captain America Winter Soldier, she recruits Wyatt Russell as the US Agent, and now in Black Widow she is working and manipulating the sister of Natasha Romanoff, Yelena.
The movie confirms that the character of Natasha Romanoff is non-revivable and even Scarlett Johansson has confirmed that the Black Widow character is done for her. She would love to stay in the MCU with other roles but not her previous one. Nevertheless, phase four of MCU is surely colorful and engaging, unlike any other series.
