Daniel Kaluuya is not sure if he will return as W’Kabi in Black Panther 2. The 2018 release of Black Panther was a huge moment for Marvel Studios and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Black Panther featured an incredible cast made up almost entirely of people of color. This included Michael B. Jordan, Danai Gurira, Lupita Nyong’o, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Daniel Kaluuya.

Marvel Studios has spent the last few years developing Black Panther 2 with director Ryan Coogler. But then the tragic news of Chadwick Boseman’s passing came in 2020 after secretly battling colon cancer for four years. People around the world are still mourning his death, but Marvel is starting to move forward with plans for Black Panther 2. Details on the sequel are scant at this point, and that includes who will appear and who will not. One of the stars of the original who doesn’t know if he will be working on the sequel is Kaluuya.

The actor is receiving a lot of praise for his performance in Judas and the Black Messiah and the press tour for the film included him speaking to Jemele Hill. The conversation included Kaluuya discussing the possibility of working on Black Panther 2 and playing W’Kabi again. Kaluuya admits that he has “no idea” if he will appear in the sequel, but is ready to be a part of it if that is what the story calls for.

W’Kabi only had a supporting role in Black Panther, but her story wasn’t complete when the movie ended. The character turned his back on T’Challa and turned around to help Killmonger take power in Wakanda. This put him in conflict with his love Okoye and led to the two having a quick showdown in the finale. The moment ended with W’Kabi’s surrender and his imprisonment. He could still be locked up all these years later, escaping during the chaos caused by Thanos’ snap, or even being a victim of himself. Any explanation could be used to bring back W’Kabi Black Panther 2.

As Kaluuya continues to show just how talented an actor he is, it would certainly be great to see him play W’Kabi again in the MCU, and this time in a bigger role. Kaluuya not knowing if he’s in Black Panther 2 by now could be seen as a sign that he won’t appear since filming begins this summer. Additionally, it was recently reported that he will be playing one of the leads in the upcoming Jordan Peele movie.
