At the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris, they were named Club of the Year. On a memorable night for the Abu Dhabi-owned Premier League champions. Two of their star players were inducted into the club’s hall of fame. Belgian midfielder Kevin De Bruyne became City’s first player to be named to the final three of the men’s individual award.

Meanwhile, De Bruyne believes his place in the men’s top three is recognition for his performances for both City and Belgium over a number of years. “I’ve been nominated quite a few times now, so it means you’ve been consistently doing well,” he explained. “It’s always nice to be recognised as a player. If you are on that list, it means a lot. And then it is up to the public to decide. As a player, I believe you understand what you do well and what you do poorly.”

“My goal is to be the best player I can be for my club, country, and myself.” You are only as good as your most recent performance. “I’ve been playing for a long time, so I know how it works.” The 31-year-old, who has played more than 300 times for City, has four Premier League titles to his name and hopes to add more this season.

Ederson, a three-time winner of the Premier League’s Golden Glove award for most clean sheets. Admits that as a kid on the streets of his homeland, he had no perception of the Ballon d’Or. But that all changed when his countrymen and idols began to win it.

He also believes it is more difficult for a goalkeeper to win the overall award. So he is delighted that the Yashin Trophy, named after the great Russian goalkeeper, has been established.
