Virat Kohli, fresh from a setback in the World Cup final, has added another feature to his already decorated cap. The batting prowess got past coach Rahul Dravid’s record of 1252 runs in tests against South Africa.

On Day 1 of the Centurian Test, the first of the two-match test series against South Africa, Kohli needed just 16 runs to surpass Rahul Dravid’s record. He ended up scoring 38 runs to become the 3rd highest scorer in test matches against the Proteas.

He has done it playing his 15th test match against South Africa. Virat lost his wicket to ace pacer Kasigo Rabada before reaching another milestone. Earlier, Tony De Zorzy dropped Kohli on 4 as South African pacers were creating havoc on the first day of the boxing day test.

Virendra Sehwag is currently at No. 2 in terms of runs in tests against South Africa. Kohli will need another 32 runs to beat Sehwag’s record of 1306 runs in 25 matches to clinch the second spot.

But guess what, Battling maestro Sachin Tendulkar is at the top of the list with his 1741 runs, which he did in 25 matches, averaging 42.46.

Virat will have to score 505 runs in the ongoing test series to top the list.

India lost three early wickets to the fiery spells of South African pacers early on. They were tottering at 24 for 3 when Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer joined hands.

Like Virat, Poteas also dropped Shreyas and paid a price. The pair made a 67-run partnership at lunch.

The Supersports Park pitch is full of help for the faster bowlers. Virat Kohli will be the key if India has to register their maiden test series victory over South Africa.

India came close to winning the series in their last tour to South Africa when they took a 1-0 lead in the opening test. But their dream was shattered by the defeats in the following two matches.
