Yami Gautam Unveils She Sustains From A Skin Condition Called Keratosis-Pilaris

After being the poster girl for perfect and glowing skin, actress Yami Gautam took to Instagram to share unedited pictures of herself showcasing all her ‘flaws’. The post has struck a chord with netizens where Yami talked about letting go of her fear and insecurities and embracing her skin condition Keratosis-Pilaris. It is a bold act and a sense of self-love if finally, someone opens up about their flaws and that something within them is bothering them. The fear of being judge and looked down upon in the land of billions of people, but still being able to talk about them needs courage. And that should be appreciate.

What is Keratosis-Pilaris?

Keratosis-Pilaris is a kind of skin condition that makes the skin patchy and full of small bumps and sometimes dry patches. Though harmless, this skin condition can’t be cured completely. However, it can be well kept in check with the regular and generous application of moisturisers and creams. This condition develops when the skin produces too much of a protein called keratin, which can block hair follicles and cause bumps to develop.

The bumps are usually on the arms, thighs, cheeks and buttocks. They’re white, sometimes red, and typically don’t hurt or itch. The condition isn’t often serious and usually disappears by the age of 30. Medicated creams may help skin appearance.

What causes keratosis pilaris?

The bumps you see when you have keratosis pilaris are actually collections of dead skin cells. These bumps are sometimes mistaken for clusters of small pimples. Keratosis pilaris bumps happen when dead skin cells clog (block) your pores instead of flaking off. Your pores are openings in your skin where hairs come through the skin (hair follicles).

Healthcare providers don’t know why some people are affected by keratosis pilaris, while others aren’t. There could be a genetic factor — meaning your genes could impact your chances of developing this condition.

If you have a skin condition like eczema, you’re more likely to get keratosis pilaris. Eczema is a common chronic skin condition that causes your skin to have red, itchy patches that come and go over time.

Does Keratosis-Pilaris go away?

There is no cure for keratosis pilaris. But the symptoms can be managed. KP can improve with age and without treatment. Treatment may improve the appearance of the bumps.

Yami Gautam opens up about the skin condition

Yami shared five photos from different photoshoots where her face was visibly not airbrushed. “I recently shot for some images and just when they were about to go in for post-production (a common procedure) to conceal my skin-condition called Keratosis- Pilaris, I thought, ‘Hey Yami, why don’t you embrace this fact and accept it enough to be OKAY with it. Just let it be,” she wrote in the caption.

“I’ve dealt with it for many years now and today finally, I decided to let go of all my fears and insecurities and found the courage to love and accept my ‘flaws’ wholeheartedly. I also found the courage to share my truth with you. Phew! I didn’t feel like airbrushing my folliculitis or smoothing that ‘under-eye or ‘shaping up’ that waist a tiny bit more! And yet, I feel beautiful,” she added.

Her post received all the support from netizens as they lauded her courage and showered love on her unfiltered self. Yami Gautam was last seen in Bhoot Police along with Saif Ali Khan, Arjun Kapoor and others.
