Wong Kar-Wai’s ‘Desiring to love (In the Mood for Love)’, now in theaters for its 20th Anniversary

Starting today, Wednesday, December 30, you can return to enjoy Desiring to love (In the Mood for Love) , the best-known film by Hong Kong filmmaker Wong Kar-Wai , which is being re-released in theaters on the occasion of its 20th anniversary . The film, headed by the interpreters Tony Chiu-Wai Leung and Maggie Cheung  , Avalon informs in a press release.

The story of Wishing to Love takes place in Hong Kong in 1962 . Chow (Leung) works as an editor-in-chief for a local newspaper and moves to a new apartment with his wife. There she meets Mrs. Chan (Cheung), a young woman – a secretary of an export company – who has just moved into the same building with her husband and who spends a lot of time alone at home due to her husband’s constant travels . Little by little, Chow and Mrs. Chan become close friends. Until one day their life changes when they discover that their respective spouses are having an affair with each other .

The re-release of In the Mood for Love is part of the Wong Kar-Wai Universe , an event that starts today, December 30, and will run for 30 days throughout the month of January. It is held in the Renoir Princesa cinemas in Madrid and Cinemes Boliche in Barcelona , which will recreate the world of the director’s titles through a ‘pop up’ space and which will also screen the seven most representative films of his filmography , remastered, restored in 4K and supervised by its author.

 

In addition to Desiring to love (2000) , Renoir Princesa and Cinemes Boliche will offer their viewers 2046 (2004), As Tears Go By (1988) , Happy Together (1997) , Chungking Express (1994) , Days of Being Wild (1990) and Fallen Angels (1995) . In January, the films will also reach more cities and cinemas across the country .

You can buy your tickets for each of them individually or, if you prefer, buy a special limited edition physical passport at a price of 38 euros – just over five euros per film. This customizable document allows you to travel through Wong Kar-Wai’s filmography in the days and passes that best suit you, and with it, you also get a gift poster of Wishing to love .
