The seventh Vande Bharat Express train will hit the busy Howrah-New Jalpaiguri route in West Bengal on December 30, according to a senior Eastern Railway official, as a report came from the news agency PTI. It will be the first of its kind to operate in West Bengal.
The high-speed train with modern amenities for passengers will take about 7.5 hours on its round trip. The statement came from Ekalabya Chakraborty, a spokesperson for the Eastern Railway. On December 30, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Express train’s service from Howrah to New Jalpaiguri.
The train’s service in the state will operate six days a week. It will significantly reduce travel time between Kolkata and Siliguri, a gateway to the Northeast region of India.
Railway officials will conduct a trial run of the Express train up to New Jalpaiguri. Motormen and railway staff from the Eastern Railway zone have already received training to operate the the train. Ten motormen went to Ghaziabad for training. Also, 25 train examiners got training for the maintenance of Vande Bharat Express at the Integral Coach Factory(ICF) in Chennai.
The Divisional Railway Manager(DRM) of Howrah stated that the train sheds for other trains are typically only partially covered, with the rest getting exposure to the open sky. However, the high-speed train has a fully covered area with shades. A special team is ready in the Howrah division for the maintenance of Vande Bharat Express, according to sources.
