Srinagar: A mud house collapsed due to a landslide in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, leaving two children dead under the rubble. One of the dead children is 3 years old, while the other was just two months old. After getting the information, the rescue team reached the spot and retrieved the bodies from the debris of the house. The incident is from Samole village in Muttal area.

The Udhampur administration has confirmed the accident. However, more details about the landslide are awaited.

The accident was condoled through a tweet from the office of Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha. LG Sinha was quoted as writing in this tweet, “Extremely hurt by the loss of life due to house collapse in Muttal, Udhampur. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family in this time of sorrow. Directed the district administration to provide necessary assistance to the affected family.”

On Friday evening, the visit to the Vaishno Devi temple atop Trikuta hills in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district was temporarily suspended following heavy rains.
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Chief Executive Officer Anshul Garg said the situation was under control and there was no report of any casualty or damage.
The pilgrims’ base camp in Katra received heavy rains for several hours in the evening, following which the authorities suspended the yatra till 5 am on Saturday as a precautionary measure, an official said.
The official said thousands of pilgrims were present at the temple when the heavy rains started and it continued till midnight.
