Tokyo Paralympics 2021- Key Dates, Schedule And Results

Tokyo 2020 Paralympics is finally here on board after a year delay due to a worldwide pandemic. For all the sports lovers it is a full swing 12 days scheduled thrill from 24 August to 5 September 2021. The Indian players will be making their place in nine sports disciplines.

These International sports include swimming, badminton, archery, taekwondo, powerlifting, canoeing, shooting, table tennis, and athletics. India has already been singing the victory song and has opened its account counting medals. Since the day India has already grabbed 7 medals and the nation is expecting more.

This article mentions the key timings and dates for all the top Indian paralympic athletes for all the sport fans around the globe. It’s their time to tie their seat belts for the kicking matches to counter-check the leader board.

Tokyo Paralympics 2020 Background

Paralympics was originally started in  1960. India made its first appearance in 1968. It differs from Olympic games as in this the athletes participating are physically disabled. This time the Paralympic games are hosted in the capital city of  Japan viz Tokyo.

The motto for this year’s Paralympic is ‘ United by Emotions’. The opening ceremony was held on 24th August 2021. This time a total of 4,537 athletes are participating from 163 different Nations. There will be 22 events in total accounting for 540 medals. From India, a sum of 54 athletes will be participating this year.

India Day-to-Day Paralympics Update

Day 1 – 25th August 2021

Table Tennis

• Individual C3 – Sonalben Madhubhai Patel suffers a defeat against Li Quan of China
• Individual C4 – Bhavina Hasmukhbhai Patel loses in opposition to  Zhou Ying of China

Day 2 – 26th August 2021

Table Tennis:

• Group A : Bhavinaben Patel beat  Megan Shackleton of Great Britain in the women’s singles class 4
• Group D: Sonalben Madhubai Patel lost to MG Lee of Korea in her second group match in women’s singles class 3

 

Day 3 – 27th August 2021

Athletics:

• Men’s Shot put: Tek Chand finished 8th  managing his best throw of  9.04m and four failed throws.

Archery:

• Women’s Compound Individual Open – Jyoti Balyan shots the best of 671 in 72 arrows to grab her place to 15th.
• Men’s Compound Individual Open –  Rakesh Kumar finishes  Third beating  Hong Kong’s Ngai Ka Chuen;

Shyam Sundar finishes 21st.

• Men’s Recurve Individual Open –  Vivek Chikara finished to 10th while Harvinder Singh to 21st.

Tokyo Paralympics 2020 Table Tennis

• Women’s Singles Class 4 –  Bhavinaben Patel beats Brazil’s Joyce de Oliveria 3-0 to enter the quarterfinals in the round 16 matches. Further, she then beats the defending champion and a four-time medal holder Borislava Peric Rankovic of Serbia in the quarterfinals to take her place to the semifinals.

Powerlifting:

• Men’s 65kg – Jaideep Deswal fails in all his 3 attempts with three foul throws.
• Women’s 50kg – Sakina Khatun grabs 5th with the best lift of 93 kg.

Day 4 – 28th August 2021

Table Tennis
Women’s Singles – Bhavina Patel defeats Miao Zhang of China 3-2 making her place to finals in Class 4 Semifinal 2

Archery
Men’s Individual Compound – Shyam Sundar Swami loses to USA’s Matt Stutzman Open 1/16 Elimination

Men’s Individual Compound – Rakesh Kumar defeated Hong Kong’s Ka Chuen Ngai in Open 1/16 Elimination.
Athletics

Men’s Javelin Throw F57 Final –Ranjeet Bhati fails to register a clean attempt No mark.

Day 5 – 29th August 2021

Archery:
The compound mixed team open:  Jyoti Baliyan and Rakesh Kumar Lose in the quarterfinals.

Table Tennis:

Women’s Singles Class 4 category: Bhavina Patel Won Silver Medal being the first Indian table tennis player to medal at the Paralympics in history

Athletics:
Men’s Discus Throw F52 – Vinod Kumar Won Bronze Medal
Men’s High Jump T47 – Nishad Kumar takes Silver Medal

Day 6 – 30th August 2021

Shooting

• Women’s R2 –  Avani Lekhara bagged Gold Medal in 10 m air rifle SH1.
• Men’s R1 – Swaroop Mahavir Unhalkar makes up for the Finals in 10 m air rifle SH1

Athletics

• Men’s Discus Throw F56 – Yogesh Kathuniya grabs a Silver Medal
• Men’s Javelin Throw F46 – Devendra Jhajharia grabs  Silver and next Sundar Singh Gurjar brings a Bronze medal.
