The Queen’s Gambit season 2: Release Date, Cast, Plot And Much More

Anya Taylor-Joy has shown that there have been no talks within another season of The Queen’s Gambit.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight after her Golden Globes win for best actress in a limited series, Taylor-Joy was asked if she would be amenable to reprising her role as competitive chess player Beth Harmon.

“Perhaps,” Taylor-Joy said when asked about the potential. “Not to forgive anyone, but we simply never thought about it. It was always a sapling to tree transition. You see her increase, you leave her at a good place. So we were genuinely surprised when people were like, ‘Where is season 2?'”

Despite affirming that a follow-up to the award-winning Netflix series wasn’t on the table, Taylor-Joy admitted that she’d think about a return if showrunners Scott Frank and Allan Scott asked her to.

Why The Queen’s Gambit season 2 makes little sense

It is highly unlikely we’ll see more of this show on Netflix. Since Taylor-Joy clarified, The Queen’s Gambit is a self-indulgent story that completes Beth’s arc for a personality, so there isn’t any true reason behind the Netflix property to develop into a franchise like Stranger Things or The Crown.

That’s not to mention The Queen’s Gambit lacked the popularity to turn into an ongoing series, however. According to a report from Variety, the drama pulled in 62 million audiences inside its very first month. Netflix’s characters are always skewed, admittedly, given that the streamer’s seeing figures derive from those who have watched at least two minutes of an episode, documentary, or even film.
