The Punisher celebrity Jon Bernthal has teased that he may still return to the role of Frank Castle to get a third season of this popular Marvel antihero.
Bernthal was a guest on the Geek House Show, where he discussed Punisher’s transition out of a supporting guest role in Daredevil to headlining his own Netflix series. When asked if there are a chance to get a continuation of Punisher’s story into a brand new Season 3, Bernthal responded, “I believe with that, there are always hope. It is unbelievably humbling just how much folks responded to the version of Frank, and I can not tell you how much it means to me personally. He means so much to me. He’s in my blood, my bones.”
“For me, it’s not so much a question for me on whether you get the chance to do it or not,” he continued. “Too many men and women are focused on trying to find an opportunity in this company, and to me, it’s what you do with the opportunity you have. Whether we do it or not, it is all about getting it right. Doing the version that fans deserve. We’ll see. All those choices are made in chambers that I am not invited into [laughs]. And that’s okay with me. I’m enormously blessed to have as much work that is exciting to me, fulfilling to me personally. Frank’s always there as a part of me. When we receive the call to proceed, I will be ready. I’ll make sure I do all I can to make sure we do it or we won’t do it at all.”

Netflix cancelled The Punisher and Jessica Jones on Feb. 18, 2019. Bernthal teased the Punisher cancellation in a post to his Instagram account earlier that afternoon, sharing a cryptic message suggesting his time as Punisher was coming to an end.
“Marvel’s The Punisher won’t go back for a third season on Netflix,” Netflix confirmed in a statement. “Showrunner Steve Lightfoot, the excellent team, and an exceptional cast including celebrity Jon Bernthal, delivered an acclaimed and persuasive series for lovers, and we’re proud to showcase their work on Netflix for a long time to come.”
The Punisher Seasons 1-2 are currently streaming on Netflix.
