Terry claims to be innocent but there is strong evidence pointing at him as the killer including security camera footage and witnesses. He gets publicly arrested and his wife calls upon a lawyer Howard Salomon. Salomon appoints Alec Pelley a private investigator who finds out that Terry has an alibi of being out of town during the time of the murder. Moreover, a hooded figure with a deformed face lingers outside the Maitland’s house. The next day, when terry is being taken to the courthouse for his hearing, he is killed by frank’s brother, terry remains persistent about his innocence even while dying, while the deformed man watches all the happenings.
The whole incident gnaws on detective Ralph Anderson and he continues to investigate the case while on his leave. The detective feels emotionally attached to the case as he lost his young son who was trained under Terry.
The story further elaborates how Ralph by all means is working on solving the grotesque crimes and how he strives to unveil ‘The Outsider.’
