Crug , Eep , Chico and company are back in The Croods: A New Era . The sequel to DreamWorks Animation , directed by Joel Crawford , continues to sweep the box office and not only recovers your favorite prehistoric family, it also introduces new characters such as the Masmejor . For the protagonists, the film has once again featured the original voices of The Croods: A Prehistoric Adventure (2013). Among them, Ryan Reynolds , who plays Chico . The actor, known for playing the funny Mercenary Bocazas in Deadpool and Deadpool 2 , impressed the film crew with his ability to improvise.
“Ryan is 300% involved from the moment he arrives,” says Crawford of the actor’s work. “Ryan brings a lot of wit, charm and depth to the character and he’s also great at writing in the room. His comic tone is unique. He likes to be the person to comment on how ridiculous a situation is or when things get ridiculous. He’s very good at nailing his speeches, with hilarious improvisations . He doesn’t want to just drop one line and move on to the next, he stops and works the joke saying: ‘There is potential here…’. Ryan hits the spot every time. We are very lucky that Ryan wants to repeat as Chico ”, adds the director.
Reynolds, for his part, attributes his great ability to work with the character to Crawford’s ability as a director. “It’s a detail on Joel’s part, but the truth is that they have created a dance floor that is very safe to jump on and show off, ” explains the actor. “I love playing with this character and how open Joel has been to everything. I think that all films involve a process with increasing and decreasing phases, creating, discarding and re-creating. The script, production and editing are all stages of writing to a greater or lesser extent and that is what I like the most about my work ”, he concludes.
In The Croods: A New Age , Reynolds repeats in the cast with Nicolas Cage and Emma Stone , who play Crug and Eep respectively. Also with the new additions of Kelly Marie Tran , Leslie Mann and Peter Dinklage . The latter lend their voices to the Masmejor, the other family that the protagonists meet in the sequel.
