Based on the comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys is a gritty superhero TV series following the titular team in its quest to take down Vought International, the firm responsible for giving people superpowers. Over the course of its two seasons, The Boys has shown among Amazon Prime Video’s most successful first programs, and so it is no surprise the company greenlit a third season early.
The third Sseason of The Boys was a done deal before the next season. In October of last year, a tweet from showrunner Eric Kripke (he also worked on the series Supernatural, btw) confirmed that the show had been slated to start production in ancient 2021 with an episode titled “Payback,” composed by Craig Rosenberg.
Nevertheless, the coronavirus outbreak has caused delays in tv production. While season 1 of the show premiered in July of 2019, followed by season 2 just over a year later in September of 2020, the word is that the wait will probably be substantially longer for the next season’s setup. Put bluntly, the show is most likely to return sometime in 2022.
Since The Boys does not follow Ennis and Robertson’s original comics series very closely, it is difficult to say for certain precisely what Season 3 of the Amazon Prime Video series will concentrate on. But, dependent on the plot threads left dangling at the end of Season 2, it is very probably The Boys will have to contend in some manner with Victoria Neuman while once more shooting on Vought International. Homelander can also be sure to be a danger, together with celebrity Antony Starr and creator Eric Kripke noting he’ll be a “homicidal maniac” in Season 3, further teasing the way the leader of The Seven will be unhinged than ever before. Furthermore, Kripke has verified Season 3 will comprise a superhero orgy referred to as “Herogasm.”
Concerning the cast, Supernatural celebrity Jensen Ackles is joining The Boys as Soldier Boy, a Captain America-esque hero from World War II that shares some similarities with Homelander. He’ll seemingly be integral to the plot, as Season 3 will explore his previous superhero team, Payback, and shed light on Stormfront’s history. It appears the show will focus on Soldier Boy and Payback ancient since the name of Season 3’s premiere is “Payback.”
Claudia Doumit and Colby Minifie, who perform Victoria Neuman and Vought International’s Ashley Barret, respectively, have been upgraded to series regulars, while Black Noir has been heralded as having lived his vulnerability to tree nuts.
