The Blacklist was recently renewed for a ninth season and returned from a hiatus after a game-changing event, the murder of super-spy Katarina Rostova (Laila Robins). On the flip side, Reddington has often told Liz to think like a criminal, and that advice may be her downfall.
For his part, Raymond Reddington ( James Spader ) has killed Elizabeth Keen’s ( Megan Boone ) mother right in front of her, and she plans to avenge the death. After attempting to kill Reddington in the winter premiere, Agent Keen found herself earning first place on The Blacklist, beginning a defining new chapter for the NBC drama.
Furthermore, Reddington’s lessons will be beneficial to Liz as she tries to take down the criminal mastermind. Having her on the run allows viewers to see Liz thinking like a criminal.
Likewise, going forward, the FBI agent will show what she has learned about the criminal underworld and will use it as a source of power. Specifically, in the next episode, he will be contacting the Blacklisters he has come across and even Reddington’s assets in an attempt to change them.

“This is an episode that fans will love because it will thrill and break their hearts,” admitted executive producer John Eisendrath.
From the second Reddington entered her life, a dark path was always a possibility for Liz ( Megan Boone ). So one of the dramatic questions from the beginning is how this master criminal’s desire to connect with this innocent FBI agent would change his life.
With that said, in finding Blacklisters, Reddington has encouraged Liz to understand the mindset and think like a criminal. So the FBI agent’s key moments, including knowing she has the Warrior gene in her DNA and covering up a murder she committed, along with what Reddington has been teaching her, have led her to this place.
Now, she’s been pushed far enough into the dark side to be at the top of Red’s list. Likewise, finding Liz will be incredibly difficult for the task force members, as they will be chasing after a member of your family.
Katarina may be gone, but the mystery she uncovered is not completely closed yet, to uncover the truth about Russian Operation N13, Katarina faked her death and then gave that information to her daughter. Don’t forget that The Blacklist is available on NBC.
“We’re going to learn a lot about N13 and the stories that surrounded that person,” explains executive producer Jon Bokenkamp.
“All of that will feed into the season in a way that will be relevant and important,” he added.
