Ted Lasso Season 2: Release Date, Cast, Story And Read On To Find Out Everything

Among the most unexpected delights on TV in 2020 was Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso, fish-out-of-water humor based on an advertisement campaign. Jason Sudeikis plays the title character, a jolly Kentuckian and American football coach who’s hired to coach the AFC Richmond football club in the English Premier League with its owner Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham), whose initial mission is to humiliate her ex-husband (Anthony Head), the ex-owner, by destroying his favorite group. By the end of the first season, almost everyone in the group is won over by Ted’s optimism, such as Rebecca. The first season of Ted Lasso goes all too quickly, which means you’ve probably wondered, “Will there be more?” The answer, thankfully, is yes. Let us fill you in.

When Will Ted Lasso Season 2 Be Released?

We don’t have an exact date yet on if you are going to be able to see the first episodes of Ted Lasso Season two (Apple TV+ typically releases episodes of its show every week, a few episodes at a time), however, we have an overall idea.

Season 1 was released in August 2020, and Season 2 started production back in January of 2021.

Apple TV+ at a stage stated in a Tweet that Season two of Ted Lasso could be released in Summer 2021, but the Tweet has been deleted; this might mean that promising a Summer release was jumping the gun a little, or it could signify that the announcement will just come in a more official capacity in a future date. We are going to have to see!

Ted Lasso season 2 story: life in the lower leagues

While we do not know a lot about the Ted Lasso season two story nonetheless, we have a fantastic idea of where it will go. Of course, the headline for Richmond F.C. is that they’ve been relegated from the Premier League to the Championship, courtesy of a last-minute winner out of Jamie Tartt’s Manchester City.

The soccer side of Ted Lasso will probably be preoccupied with adapting to the new level, then, however, given the suggested three-season arc, we predict an immediate return to English soccer’s top grade, with Richmond fighting for the Premier League title in season 3. Well, odd things can happen in football.

But while Tartt’s loan spell was terminated in season 1, Lasso’s unique coaching methods and emphasis on teamwork won Jamie over. Perhaps Tartt will turn his back on his abusive dad for good and help Richmond on the way into a Premier League return.

Of course, Ted Lasso is more about the players, staff, and their own families than it is football. We will also see Rebecca’s continuing feud with her ex-husband (Anthony Head), Roy adjusting to life out of their first group, as well as Keeley, and Ted’s struggles with his divorce and space from his loved ones.

Ted Lasso Season 2 Cast: Who is in it?

Sudeikis, that also receives development credits alongside Lawrence, Brendan Hunt, and Joe Kelly, portrays the eponymous character, the American coach of the literary AFC Richmond. Hunt is also part of this cast. He plays Lasso’s second-in-command, Coach Beard. Hannah Waddingham stars as Rebecca Welton, the new owner of AFC Richmond. Jeremy Swift is cast as Higgins, Rebecca’s lackey, who later starts questioning her activities.

The cast of the show also includes Phil Dunster as gifted but arrogant footballer Jamie Tartt; Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent, a legend of the game, now handling the constraints that aging brings; Nick Mohammed as Nathan Shelley, a soft-spoken and mellow kit-man with a comprehensive understanding of the game; and Juno Temple as glamorous model Keeley Jones, who dates Jamie and stocks intimate strain with Roy. Almost all members of the major cast are set to reprise their roles in season 2.
