The long-awaited fourth season of Netflix’s Stranger Things may require a bit more patience from fans as star Finn Wolfhard announces that the season may be released in 2022. The series premiered in 2016 with its primary cast members in their early teens and has had no more than a two-season gap between season releases until now. Season 3 has been released in 2019 using a cast still filled with children, and so, with the now-expected 2022 launch of Season 4, it appears the Duffer brothers (Stranger Things creators) will have some explaining to do together with the substantial jump in their cast’s age.
Wolfhard stars alongside Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Milly Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Noach Schnapp, Caleb McLaughlin, along with many others within this struck sci-fi/horror series fuelled with 80s nostalgia that continues to take the world by storm. The narrative follows the lives of a bunch of kids as they uncover the dark secrets their little suburban town is hiding as they battle hideous monsters together with the corrupt leaders that are protecting (and harboring) them.
During a Fanmio video chat with fans, which was released on Twitter by Stranger Things Spoilers, Wolfhard revealed that he’s not anticipating Season 4 to release until”sometime” in 2022.
Season 4 has been formally declared in September 2019, a couple of months after the next season’s release. Filming started in Lithuania in early 2020, however, like many other displays, Netflix put production on hold due to the pandemic. It has recently been stated that filming is expected to continue into August of this year, supporting Wolfhard’s supposition. Throughout the time that production for Season 4 began, a teaser trailer was released, which affirmed the recurrence of a critical character who audiences supposed to be dead (Harbour’s beloved Chief Hopper). Aside from this, fans don’t have a lot to go on, but Season 4 is seemingly the scariest, based on Joe Keery (who performs Steve Harrington).

Many fan theories circulate about the nature of Season 4 as the gap in filming leaves audiences to wonder if years will have passed since we last saw the middle-school-aged characters. Many questions have surfaced, like the way Hopper survived the deadly explosion at the end of Season 3, and that of those fan-favorite recurring characters will return, and the way the Duffer brothers will figure out how to make a much more terrific creature. But one thing is for sure Stranger Things Season 4 will be bigger and better than ever.
