SpiceJet’s pilot-in-command’s license suspended, despite refusal to fly passenger plane amid clouds

New Delhi: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has suspended the pilot-in command (PIC) license of a SpiceJet flight for six months.

According to reports, the co-pilot of the PIC had asked the captain to overtake the clouds and not fly through them, but he ignored them. The incident occurred on May 1, when Boeing B737 aircraft operating flight SG-945 from Mumbai to Durgapur encountered severe disturbance while landing, resulting in injuries to some passengers.

A total of 195 people were on board the plane, including two pilots and four cabin crew members. The plane took off from Mumbai at around 5.13 pm. While landing, the aircraft experienced severe turbulence and the vertical load factor varied from +2.64G and – 1.36G. During this period the autopilot was turned off for two minutes and the crew manually flew the aircraft, the DGCA said in its statement on May 2.
