Sotheby’s to Auction Princess Diana’s Iconic Vanity Dress

Her Highness wore the Victor Edelstein velvet gown in a royal photograph alongside the then-Prince of Wales in 1991. It later appeared in a Vanity Fair shoot in 1997. Sotheby’s has released the whole catalog for its inaugural Fashion Icons auction. The auction, which begins on August 31 and ends on September 14, is shaping up to be a royal affair.

The auction house has confirmed that one of Diana’s most famous pieces will be offered: her 1985 Murray Arbeid gown. Which she wore to Prince Edward’s 21st birthday celebration. A themed event named “A Midsummer Night’s Ball” was held at Windsor Castle’s royal home in June 1985.

The gown, like many of Diana’s most famous looks, generated headlines for days. Particularly when another visitor in attendance wore the same gown. Natasha Fairweather was the guest in question.

Diana wore the dress on several occasions, and it became one of her defining style highlights during her years in the spotlight

Diana wore the dress on several occasions, and it became one of her distinguishing style moments during her years in the spotlight. “The entire Fashion Icons sale revolves around one-of-a-kind pieces that reflect various eras of fashion,” Sotheby’s global head of fashion and accessories Cynthia Houlton said.

“Princess Diana is one of the greatest fashion icons of all time, so she’s someone we’d like to include.” She originally sold the outfit for charity, and we are delighted that it has now come to us.”

Aside from Princess Diana’s possessions, Sarah Jessica Parker’s antique taxidermy Bird of Paradise headgear from “The City: The Movie” is up for bid. The headgear was notably worn in the moment in which Carrie and Mr. Big went to get married. But Big abandons her at the altar, humiliating her. The auction will also include Michelle Obama’s Norman Norell lace gown. Kate Winslet’s 1998 Oscars Alexander McQueen gown, and Madonna’s lace veil from Vanity Fair’s first Icons issue photo session.
