Ratan Tata and two other people join as trustees for PM CARES

In a meeting on Wednesday, the newly-nominated trustees of the PM CARES Fund, former Supreme Court judge K T Thomas, former deputy speaker Kariya Munda, and Tata Sons chairman emeritus Ratan Tata, expressed gratitude for those who have “contributed totally” to the fund. The trustees, Amit Shah of the Union Home Ministry and Nirmala Sitharaman of the Union Finance Ministry, also attended the meeting. Anand Shah, the former CEO of Indicorps and the Piramal Foundation, Sudha Murthy, the co-founder of Teach for India, and former CAG Rajiv Mehrishi were all chosen to serve on an advisory board.

The fund’s contribution at a pivotal moment for the nation was valued by the trustees. The Prime Minister’s Office released a statement in which PM Narendra Modi expressed gratitude to the nation’s citizens for their kind donations to the PM CARES Fund. The inclusion of additional trustees and advisers, according to the PM, will provide the fund’s operations with a wider perspective. The fund will become more sensitive to varied public demands because of “their considerable knowledge,” he claimed.

Discussions on extending PM CARES’s scope also took place. According to the trustees, this program has a bigger goal that includes building capacity and successfully reacting to emergencies. The fund presently assists 4,345 youngsters, according to a presentation on the numerous efforts carried out using the money. The PMO states that the trustees’ duties also include drafting and submitting any files, accounts, and returns as required by relevant legislation and overseeing the contribution process to guarantee the correct application of the trust property.
