Rashmika made her acting debut with the 2016 Kannada film Kirik Party. Later she made her Telugu debut with Chalo in 2018. In the same year, she starred in the rom-com film Geetha Govindam, which has become one of the highest profit earners in Telugu cinema, which earned her wide recognition. Her third Telugu venture was the big-budget film Devadas. It marked her third consecutive successful film in the same year in Telugu cinema.

She starred in commercially successful films such as Kirik Party (2016), Anjani Putra (2017), Chamak (2017), Chalo (2018), Geetha Govindam (2018), Yajamana (2019), Sarileru Neekevvaru (2020), Bheeshma (2020), Pogaru (2021) and Sulthan (2021).

Early life and education

Rashmika Mandanna was born on 5 April 1996 in a Kodava-speaking family to Suman and Madan Mandanna in Virajpet, a town in the Kodagu district of Karnataka. She did her schooling in Coorg Public School (COPS), Kodagu before she pursued a pre-university course at Mysore Institute of Commerce and Arts.

She later pursued a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Journalism and English Literature from the M. S. Ramaiah College. Along with her studies, she pursued modelling and appeared in a couple of advertisements.

Career

She won the clean and clear Times Fresh Face of India 2014 title which was awarded in January 2015. And was made the brand ambassador of Clean & Clear. Then she won the title of La Mode Bangalore’s Top Model Hunt 2015, Season 2. Her pictures from the Fresh Face competition impressed the makers of the film Kirik Party who then cast her as the female lead for the film in March 2016.

In 2016 she was in 24th place and in 2017 she made it to ‘Bangalore Times Most Desirable Woman of 2017’ bagging the ‘First place’ Rashmika met actor Rakshit Shetty for the first time at the sets of Kirik Party in 2016. They began dating after having worked together; they got engaged in July 2017 in a private ceremony in her hometown Virajpet. In 2017, Rashmika’s first release was Harsha’s Anjani Putra opposite Puneeth Rajkumar which received mixed reviews and later was commercially successful.

Her second and last release was Chamak opposite Ganesh which opened to rave reviews from critics and audience alike and turned out to be a blockbuster and later earned her first nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Kannada at 65th Filmfare Awards South. She made her Telugu film debut opposite Naga Shourya with the film titled Chalo, which received positive reviews and turned out to be a super hit with critics praising her performance and slated as an impressive debut. Post success she bagged three films in Telugu, two opposite Vijay Devarakonda and a multistarrer opposite Nani and Nagarjuna. In Kannada, she has also committed a film opposite Darshan.
