Priyanka Chopra reveals she was expected to be ‘reed thin’ when she started in Bollywood

Priyanka Chopra recently spoke out in a podcast about the pressure to look thin when she first joined Bollywood almost 20 years back. She revealed back then, it was normal to expect actors and models to be of a particular size and color.
Chopra explained that people in fashion and films could ask others to be a certain body weight or dress size. Anything deviating from that was considered not pretty. She acknowledged that such expectations still exist. But they are now behind closed doors.
The actor expressed concern about the impact of these false beauty standards on young people. She said that beauty is subjective. There should be a healthy conversation about what inclusion and beauty look like. People should break the set narratives about beauty. They need to have a healthy conversation about the female and male body, aging, and the reality of that.
Chopra’s comments come at a time when there is a worldwide talk regarding body shaming. More and more people are recognizing the need to redefine beauty standards. There is a new wave for the promotion of body positivity. The “thin ideal” has links with eating disorders, body dissatisfaction, and low self-esteem. It’s important to acknowledge that everybody is different and has their unique beauty.
It’s encouraging to see prominent figures like Priyanka Chopra speak out against harmful beauty standards and call for a more inclusive definition of beauty. By challenging the age-old narrow beauty ideals, we can create a more accepting and compassionate world.
